Resource Centre FAQs

In addition to our award-winning tutorials, we also offer a whole range of graphic resources to get your creative juices flowing.  Whether its something as simple as a funky new font, or as lavish as a whole set of new brushes, we can cater for every need.  Here is a brief summary of our various resource libraries:

Graphic Resources (aka Download Centre)
Comment: Enter Adobe Photoshop to save the day with its multitude of options that allow add-in brushes, layer styles, patterns, shapes and much more.  With a little imagination the possibilities with these resources are endless, whatever your skill level!

The Website Directory
Comment: The internet is a vast resource just waiting to be tapped into by the aspiring designer.  Finding the best that the web has to offer, though, is a frustrating experience laced with spam & pop-ups.  Our website index aims to address this problem by listing only the best websites and tools that are on offer...

How do you download these resources?

Its quite simple really - just navigate until you are given a dialog screen asking you where you want to put the downloadable file.  Then simply select an appropriate folder and press 'OK' to save it to your computer.  All files in this downloads section are in the ZIP archive format, so you may need a program such as WinZIP to decompress the files if your system does not support them natively.

How do I add the new brushes/filters/etc to my software?
Due to the many different versions of Photoshop & combinations with operating systems I'd advise you look in the manual or help file for precise installation instructions.  Fonts are not a part of PS, but are loaded into the operating system itself.  Again, I advise you read the help file for more detailed installation instructions.

My brushes/filters/etc aren't working!

The many different versions of Photoshop all have variable abilities, and every successive iteration of the software seems to add a ton more features.   The absolute minimum spec I recommend for the resources featured is Photoshop 6 or greater.

Can I download everything?

Yes you can, but PLEASE DON'T!  Downloading everything simply because its there uses up a lot of bandwidth on the server, and is especially wasteful if you have no intention of using the resources you download.  Just remember - this section is intended to remain as a long-term repository of top-notch resources, so just browse and download what you need as you need it.  Those shapes you like the look of will still be there next week, and the week after that, and the.... well, you get the idea. ;)

When I try and download I just get redirected to the main page!

To stop annoying little hotlinkers draining bandwidth, all downloads are verified through a server-side script that checks you are indeed browsing from my site.  To do this it reads a few variables from your browser.  If you have your security settings set to very high levels, it may refuse to give the information required, falsely identifying you as a bit of a dodgy character.  Alas there is no way around this - the security does much more good than harm, so just tweak your browser a little for the time you are on Biorust.

Can I redistribute your downloads?

Unfortunately, I can't answer that question.  All downloads in this section are created by third parties, so you will have to contact THEM directly for approval.  Do not assume that just because they give us distribution rights, that they will do the same for you.   Besides, its only polite to ask...

How can I thank the author for their great work?

In my experience, I can say that seeing their resources in action is the biggest reward a brush/shape/etc artist can experience.  You may also want to send them an e-mail or other message thanking them for their tireless efforts in the community.  It also goes without saying, of course, that a little acknowledgement in the artwork copyright or accompanying text will not go amiss either - its just polite after all.

Will you redistribute my stuff?

We re-distribute high quality creative resources.  If you think that you have a few brushes/shapes/etc of value to us, just fill in the contact form and we will get back to you ASAP.
