| Frequently Asked Questions |
|
|
| Q: What tools did you use to make Biorust? |
The entire Biorust interface was created with four basic
tools. For the graphics we used
Adobe
Photoshop primarily, followed up by Adobe Imageready for image
optimisation and 'cutting up'. Most of the HTML & PHP was hand-coded
using a mix of EditPlus
and
Microsoft Frontpage. The scripts that automate many of the Biorust
functions, however, come from a variety of sources all over the internet,
and most were re-written from the ground up to integrate properly into our
server software.
| Q: Does the world really need another graphics community? |
|
Biorust aims to set itself apart from other graphics
communities on the internet by being a progressive self-development service.
In other words, we are here to improve your skills as an artist with unique
tutorials, timely advice, stunning inspiration, and constructive criticism
via the user galleries.
We are NOT aiming to replace
Deviantart,
GFXartist, or your
own portfolio websites as a long-term storage solution for your artwork. To
this end, we only offer a limited amount of space for your creations, so
that after a point you can only add new artwork by erasing some of your old
files. This may seem harsh, but it means that we keep our galleries
bristling with new artwork, and help you develop as an artist in the
process. |

| Q: Can I become one of your affiliates? |
|
If you have a decent website with original, relevant
content, and over 1000 visitors a day, we will definitely consider adding your site to our affiliates
system, which will display your link randomly on every page, and every time
in the
links pages. All we ask is that you are willing to link back to us in
return, and that you can handle the traffic we will put your way.
To be considered for affiliation, just fill in the form on the bottom of
this page. |
|
| |
| Q: Can I have a Biorust button/logo to link back to Biorust on my
website? |
|
You can find our unique buttons and logos in the
links
section. Just remember that if you link back to us you instantly become
cooler and more attractive to the opposite sex... ;) |
| |
| Q: I have a question about the tutorials section. |
|
There is a separate
tutorials FAQ to answer all questions related to that subject. |
| |
| Q: Can I use your stuff on my site? |
|
Well, it depends! Best just read the disclaimer at the
bottom of each section. As a general rule, we DON'T allow ripping of
artworks, interfaces or skins. The textures, however, are generally free to use as long as
credit is given. |
| |
| Q: I use an obscure browser and your site looks
terrible! |
|
Well, not surprisingly, we can't create a website that
looks perfect in every browser ever made since the dawn of the internet age.
In making v3 of our site we have, however, adhered to modern web standards
and created an interface that should display flawlessly in every browser
less than 2 years old. This includes
Internet
Explorer 5+,
Mozilla,
Netscape 6+, Opera 6+,
Safari or
Konqueror. |
| |
| Q: Can I commission you? |
|
Unfortunately the creator of the Biorust design is very
busy with postgraduate degree coursework at the moment and is unavailable
for any additional projects. That said, why don't you fish around in
the Biorust Forums and see who
bites? There are plenty of skilled web designers lurking about in
there, and most of them are very very bored indeed... ;) |
| |
| Q: Can I have web hosting on the BioRust
server? |
|
For security and stability reasons we do not host
third-party websites on our server, lest they suddenly destabilize
everything and bring the ceiling crashing down on everyone. On several
occasions we have offered hosting accounts to prominent contributors, but
these are rare and no guarantees are offered on the reliability of the
service.
